About Us - History & Vision

Meet The Need’s origins date back to 2000 when its founder, Jim Morgan, was a consultant helping “Dot Com” companies develop Internet strategies. As a Christian Jim began thinking about how the Internet could be leveraged for a ministry purpose rather than for just making money. At the same time, he was looking for opportunities to “give back”, but had no idea who to call or where to go to find ways to help that would fit his skills and interests.

God gave Jim an inspired thought – if people can shop online for what they want to buy, why can’t they “shop” online for someone who needs what they want to give away? By creating those types of 1-to-1 connections, Christians could meet not only the physical and material needs of others, but their spiritual needs as well. Jim realized that technology which could potentially mobilize millions of others just like him to help those in need was already available in the business world – someone just needed to bring it over to the world of outreach!

A 501(c)(3) to test the concept was launched with a few churches in 2002 in Tampa, Florida and it quickly became apparent that churches and church members truly did want to do more to impact their communities. But someone needed to help alleviate the administrative burden of running outreach programs – doing so could dramatically increase the amount of outreach activity taking place among Christian churches. The rest, as they say, is history.

Today, Meet The Need brings best practices from the business world around eCommerce, Outsourcing, Business Intelligence, and Customer Relationship Management to churches and ministries for the sole purpose of enabling them to reach out to those in need of help and hope. We’ve also become leaders in innovative solutions for critical causes like hunger relief, homelessness, foster care, and recidivism – working alongside national and regional partners. And once again, Meet The Need is breaking the mold in poverty alleviation innovation. We invented the first collaborative Volunteer, Evant, and Shared Case Management online platforms in the early 2000s, and now we’re leveraging Artificial Intelligence to provide a better solution to (material) poverty by building circles of sustainable support around struggling families – the proverbial (relational) hand up rather than (transactional) handouts.

…and Meet The Need continues to do all of this as a Not-for-Profit ministry.

Matthew 9

35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

Matthew 5

14 You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

I Corinthians 4

4 There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. 5 There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6 There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.

Ephesians 4

11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
